The Savvy Panel revisits “The Hook-Up Culture” from a different lens. Deemed by many to be a trend or a declaration of sexual independence, author of Sex and the Soul, Donna Freitas challenges us to think that hooking up could be a mere excuse for covering the fact that just maybe there is a yearning expectation for more than just sex. The prospect of a relationship or lack of substance, perhaps… Toni and co-hosts Jennifer Jones Austin and Denise Arbesu discuss Freitas’ social research. After conducting a series of interviews with college students, Freitas analysis measures the integration of sex, religion and spirituality. This discussion delves into the functionality of the hook-up culture as well as breaks down Freitas’ qualitative analysis of the conflicting nature of casual sex on campuses.
